Fanduel MLB Picks for Wednesday, September 17th 2014

Hey all!

Welcome to my brand new website and my first daily MLB column. I will be providing this column for the rest of the regular season then switching mainly to NFL until Basketball season kicks in.

We’re going to focus on mostly GPP picks that can go off tonight as well as a few safe cash game players. I’m mostly a GPP player so hopefully these insights will help raise your overall scores tonight.

Enter Tonight’s $35,000 MLB Squeeze on Fanduel!

Pitchers

We have a lot of elite pitchers on the slate tonight so It may be the right time to spend up on pitcher. I generally spend no more than 8k on my P although tonight 9k seems smart considering what Jake Arrieta did last night.

Bud Norris (13-8, 3.74 ERA) $7,100 FD Salary

The Orioles starting pitchers are throwing exceptionally well, posting 1.79 ERA over the last 15 games.

Bud Norris tossed three-hit ball over seven innings Friday in a 5-0 win over the Yankees. He walked two and struck out a season-high 10 to improve to 7-2 with a 2.62 ERA in 12 home starts this year. Norris is 3-0 with a 2.16 ERA this season against Toronto, allowing one run over 13 2/3 innings in two starts at Camden Yards.

Norris is averaging 14.7 FDP over the last 2 weeks and has a 7.81 K/9 at home. With the Orioles hot swinging bats, Norris has a great chance of making value and earning a win tonight.

Klye Hendricks (6-2, 2.38 ERA) $6,500 FD Salary

Chicago cubs have shut out the Reds two games in a row and have a good chance of a 3rd shutout tonight with Hendricks pitching.

Rookie Kyle Hendricks  gets his chance to stymie the Reds, who will try to avoid a fourth straight defeat and being swept by Chicago for the first time since July 24-26, 2009. Hendricks allowed four runs in six innings a 6-4, 12-inning win at Cincinnati on July 10 in his major league debut, then went 6-1 with a 1.60 ERA in the next nine starts.

Hendricks is only averaging 7 FDP over the last 2 weeks and a low 4.45 K’9 at home. However, he is facing a struggling Reds team and should be able to cruise tonight.

Dillon Gee (7-7, 3.80 ERA) $7,000 FD Salary

Dillon Gee is in a nice spot tonight against the Marlins. Miami strikes outs the most in MLB against right handers and Gee dominated the Marlins all season long. Dillon Gee  has a scoreless streak of 16 1/3 innings versus Miami. He’s gone 3-0 with a 2.30 ERA in five starts against the Marlins after allowing three hits in eight innings of a 4-0 home win April 27 in his only meeting this season.

Francisco Liriano (5-10, 3.53 ERA) $8,700 FD Salary

Liriano is on fire. He’s struck out an NL-best 10.43 per nine innings in the second half, including 12 in his last outing. He’s pitching at home and pitching against a Red Sox team that got shutout by the Pirates last night.

Liriano is averaging 21.5 FDP over the last 2 weeks and has a 8.45 K/9 at home.

David Price (14-11, 3.26 ERA) $11,200 FD Salary

I normally only take pitchers at home, but David Price leads the majors in strikeouts so he is always in play when facing a weaker lineup. Tonight, he faces the Twins who can put up a lot of runs at home. I say proceed with caution, but Price has unbelievable upside averaging 16.1 FDP over the last 2 weeks.

Catcher

Highest scoring catcher over last 7: Russell Martin

C HRs last night:

  • Yan Gomes
  • Buster Posey
  • Russell Martin

Russell Martin $3,800

Normally, Buster Posey is the top option but the Giants play in the early afternoon slate. Russell Martin is heating up and batting .389 with 2 HR and 9 RBI over his last 7 games. He’s at home against Clay Boltholz so I really like this match up.

Other Plays: Yan Gomes, Jonathan Lucroy

1st Base

Highest scoring 1st Basemen over the past 7 days: Steven Pearce

1st Base HRs last night

  • Kennys Vargas
  • Steven Pearce
  • Brandon Moss

Steven Pearce $3,600

Steven Pearce is on a tear and is the top scoring FD 1st base over the past week. He is averaging 4.5 FDP per game. Tonight, he faces J.A. Happ who he is 3/12 with a double lifetime against. Vegas is predicting the Orioles game to be one of the highest scoring so Pearce is in play. He’s batting .391 with a crazy 1.300 OPS over his last 7 games.

Jose Abreu $3,900

The rookie slugger is one of the safest cash game plays every night because he absolutely crushes right handed pitching. He’s batting .385 over his last 7 games and is also the second highest scoring 2nd baseman in the past week behind Steven Pearce.

Miguel Cabrera $5,100

Lately, Miggy has looked hobbled but that hasn’t stopped him from producing some monster fantasy nights. He has double dong potential and faces Kyle Gibson who he is batting .400 with a HR against. He’s expensive, but hits .355 at target field this season and should see some success tonight.

Other Plays: Albert Pujois, Kennys Vargas (contrartian against Price)

2nd Base

Highest scoring 2nd baseman over past 7 days: Jose Altuve $4,300

2nd Base HRs last night:

  • Freddy Galvis
  • Alexi Amarista
  • Jimmy Paredes

Jimmy Paredes $2,400

When this guy is in the Orioles lineup, he is a complete stud. Paredes is red hot batting .545 over his last 7 games and homered last night against Toronto. He’s super cheap on Fanduel and will help you roster some more studs in your lineup.

Jose Altuve $4,300

Altuve leads the league in hits and is the only current player with over 200 hits in the majors. He’s small but packs a lot of power and is always a safe cash game play. He’s crushing the ball lately and is hitting .500 over his last 7 games.

Neil Walker $3,700

Walker is a pure splits play against the Boston Red sox. He bats cleanup and is hitting .333 against the Red Sox this season. Buchholz can pitch well, but the Pirates are 3rd in batting average at home in the MLB and should put up some runs tonight.

Other plays: Howie Kendrick, Javier Baez

3rd Base

Highest scoring 3rd baseman over last 7 days: Anthony Rendon

3rd Base HRs last night: None

Anthony Rendon $4,000

He’s a great cash game play and can always go off in GPPs. Tonight, He’s facing a good lefty Alex Wood, but Rendon has been dominating Wood in his career. Rendon is hitting .615 against Wood with a homer. The Nationals feast on Left handed pitching so he can also score some runs too.

David Freese $2,800

The Angels are the best team in baseball as of late. Except for last night, The Angels are scoring a ton of runs in bunches. David Freese is my favorite cheap hitter in the lineup and he’s hitting .375 with 2 HR over his last 7 games. Angels feast on LHP and I except them to bounce back from last night’s embarassing defeat.

Other Plays: Josh Donaldson, Evan Longoria

SS

Highest scoring SS over the last 7 days: Wilmer Flores

SS HRs last night:

  • Wilmer Flores 2 HR
  • Ian Desmond

Wilmer Flores $2,800

Flores is putting up crazy numbers lately. He’s batting .364 with 3HR and 10 RBI over his past 7 games. Tonight, he gets All Star Henderson Alvarez but he’s way too hot and cheap to pass up.

Yunel Escobar $2,800

Escobar is another cheap SS that’s putting up solid numbers. He’s batting .387 with 3 HR and 7 RBI over his last 7 games. Brandon Mccarthy struggles away from Yankee stadium so Escobar looks like a nice cheaper play.

Other Plays: Ian Desmond, Erick Aybar

Outfield

Highest scoring OF over last 7 days: Mike Trout

OF HRs last night:

  • JD Martinez
  • Jorge Soler
  • Gerardo Parra
  • Dominic Brown
  • Yasiel Puig
  • Jake Slominiski

JD Martinez $3,800

Instead of Miggy or Victor Martinez tearing things up, JD Martinez is absolutely destroying the ball lately. He’s batting .450 with 3 HRs and a crazy 1.592 OPS. He bats behind Miggy and Vmart so he has plenty of RBI opportunities.

Jorge Soler $3,500

Soler went off last night, and if he’s in the lineup, he’s a near must play against Daniel Corcino who has a 5.19 ERA. Soler is batting .400 over his last 7 and should see success if he plays.

Mike Trout $5,500

Nobody has scored more Fanduel points all season than Mike Trout. He’s in play every night if you can afford him. He’s batting .381 over his last 7 and gets another matchup at home against a lefty. Paxton may not last that long so don’t worry too much about him. Trout is an MVP candidate and should continue his success.

Other Plays: Matt Holiday, Josh Harrison, Adam Jones
