Fanduel NFL Week 5 2018 DFS Strategy Guide, Picks and Lineup Advice

Last week, I put up a season high of 186 thanks to paying up for RB and finding some value at the Wide Receiver position.

Here’s a screenshot of my highest scoring lineup so far this season:

QB

Last week, Mitchell Tribusiky put up 6 TD passes against an awful Tampa Bay Defense at home, proving going contrarian at QB makes a lot of sense in GPPs.

This week, I’m looking again to spend up at QB to take advantage of some juicy matchups.

Ben Roethlisberger $8400

Big Ben will be extremely popular in Week 5 and for good reason. ATL has been getting torched by QBs, giving up 26FDP per game this season. However, Big Ben is currently down trending so there is reason to proceed with caution.

If you are looking to stack a game with a really high over-under, then Big Ben is a great plugin for cash games.

Cam Newton $8400

If you want to fade a highly popular play, then look to Cam Newton at the same price point. The reason I love Cam this week is because he is trending up (18FDP, 28FDP, 29FDP) and is coming off a bye week. He will be well rested going against a Giants defense that gave up 29FDP to Deshaun Watson, a similar type of dual threat QB.

Cam Newton is also a rushing threat so he gives you extra upside with his legs. You can play him alone or stack him with a WR for extra upside.

Carson Wentz $7500

Carson Wentz is trending up and gets to face a Viking Defense that gave up 39FDP to Jared Goff in Week 4. The Vikings gave up multiple long TDs and I think Wentz has the potential to put up a big game at home versus a struggling pass defense. He’s my favorite GPP play on the week and I’ll be stacking him with Alshon Jeffrey and even Nelson Agholor.

RB

Melvin Gordon $8700

Few players have the upside and amount of consistent touches as Gordon maintains in this Chargers offense. He received 15 carries and 10 targets last week and gives you steady production at the RB position. Also, the Raiders got shreded by RBs last week giving up 53 FDP. This matchup is an excellent spot for Gordon who has good cash game production as well as upside for tournaments.

James Conner $7800

He’s a big risky for cash games since he is currently on the downtrend, however Atlanta has been getting shredded by pass catching RBs all season long. giving up 29FDP per game. He’s also at the same price point with Kareem Hunt who is currently trending up but has a tough matchup against a solid Jaguars defense. If you want to fade the Steelers pass catchers, then James Conner gives you exposure to a high scoring game without paying up for Antonio Brown and Juju.

Matt Breida $6100

He’s currently questionable (as of Thursday) but gets the best matchup of the week for RBs. Arizona is ranked last in terms of FDP allowed to Rbs. They allowed 34FDP per game to opposing RBs so fire up Breida if he’s active.

Other Plays: Kareem Hunt, Kerryon Johnson, Christian Mcraffrey. Aaron Jones

WR

Golden Tate $7400

Tate is coming off a monster 2 TD game and gets a nice matchup at home VS the packers. He’s gone over 100 yards receiving in his last 2 game vs packers plus scored a TD in the most recent home matchup. He’s trending up and I expect this game could turn into a shootout in at Ford Field.

Alshon Jeffrey $6900

Alshon Jeffrey returned last week and put up a 20FDP in his first game this season. He’s facing a Vikings Defense that got abused by the Rams offense so I love all the passing catchers, especially Jeffrey. 3 TDs in his last 4 games vs the Vikings. His price hasn’t adjusted and I will be stacking him with Carson Wentz in tournaments. I don’t love the matchup against Xavier Rhodes who shadowed Brandin Cooks in week 4 but still gave up 100+ yards and 1 TD.

Devin Funchess $6100

Since I love the Cam Newton play over Big Ben in GPPs, I’ll look to stack Funchess with Newton in my GPP lineups. The Giants have been worse against the pass on the road and Funchess has scored in his only career game VS the Giants. He’s also trending up and I think he’ll be super low owned with everyone chasing the ATL-PIT game.

Other Plays: Cooper Kupp, Corey Davis, Juju

TE

Zach Ertz $7500

If you’re looking for a safe cash game play, then Ertz is a great target for Week 5. He’s seen 10+ targets in every game so far and is due for his first TD of the season. I love all the pass catchers from the Eagles in this order (Jeffrey, Ertz, Agolhor). If you pay up at TE, this forces you into a unique lineup build with everyone chasing Jared Cook and Travis Kelce.

Other Plays: Tyler Kroft, Nick Vannett, Jordan Leggett, Antonio Gates

FLEX

For the flex position, I’m looking at pluggin in a WR/RB with the potential to put up 20+ FDP.
